Mundum Site Salpa Silichung Under Encroachment by Hindu and Buddhist

Our Identity is Under Threat Due to the Inefficiency of Our Own Rai and Kirati Organizations

At first glance, one might think this place is a worship site for Lamas, but in truth, this is the origin site of Kirati Saya (Shir) Mundum—Silichung. Here, blatant religious encroachment is taking place! The encroachment has spread from Salpa Pokhari to Silichung and is now beginning to reach Tuwachung as well.

**Note:**
This highlights the urgent need for the Kirati community to recognize and protect their cultural and spiritual heritage. If we do not act now, our traditions and identity will continue to be eroded by external influences.

It is astonishing that, to this day, no Kirati Mundum-related structures or objects have been established at Silichung. However, Lamas have already hoisted flags and prayer scarves there. If the Lamas claim that Silichung is explicitly mentioned in their Tripitaka, they should provide clear evidence. Otherwise, the act of randomly placing flags and prayer scarves on the beautiful, towering hills and ridges should be stopped immediately.

Kirati people worldwide must take proactive steps to protect their sacred Mundum sites. If we remain passive and allow such encroachments to continue unchecked, our civilization and cultural heritage will be completely erased in the future.

**Note:**

This emphasizes the urgent need for the Kirati community to safeguard their sacred sites and cultural identity. If we do not act now, our rich heritage and traditions risk being lost forever.

Mundum Site Salpa Silichung Under Hinduization

In Bhojpur, the sacred Mundum site of the Kirati people, Salpa Pokhari's head, Silichung, is also associated with stories of Mahadev (Lord Shiva) sitting there. At Silichung, the Kirati Mundum site, tridents and flags have been hung, reflecting the influence of Hindu. This site, which holds cultural significance for the Kirati people, lacks any Kirati cultural symbols, such as statues of Sumnima and Paruhang or the traditional Sakela Lung or Wabuk Chindo (ritual symbols). However recently group of Kirat Rai has taken initiative to build so.

Despite the presence of Kirati priests (Mangpa/Bijuwa/Dhami) at Silichung, the site is increasingly being linked to Hindu narratives, such as Mahadev's presence. Tridents and flags of other religions are prominently displayed, while Kirati cultural symbols are absent. This reflects a continuous religious and cultural encroachment by other communities, who are imposing their religious symbols and narratives on this sacred Kirati site.

If our Kirati organizations and institutions continue to neglect this issue, the history, traditions, culture, and civilization of the Kirati people will be overshadowed and lost. There is a risk that future generations will only find traces of Kirati identity in books, with no living connection to their heritage. Therefore, it is crucial for all Kirati organizations to focus on protecting and preserving such historical sites.

The Kirati community must act now to safeguard their cultural and historical identity. If not, the rich heritage of the Kirati people, including their traditions, customs, and civilization, will face extinction. Let us ensure that the Kirati identity remains alive and vibrant for future generations.

**Note:**
This highlights the urgent need for Kirati organizations to prioritize the protection of their cultural and historical sites to prevent the loss of their unique identity and heritage.
